  4. Sunrise Celebration

Lent, a 40-day period of prayer, penance, and fasting, ends on Resurrection Sunday when the sun comes up.

The location of our sunrise service is significant. We are in a glass-enclosed area that looks East out over the Mississippi River. The setting reinforces the theme of renewal and rebirth as the sun appears over the bluff.

The quietness of the early morning creates an atmosphere of peace and reflection that allows us  to connect with our faith in a profound way.  There is a powerful sense of community and shared experience among the congregation members of several churches.

The worship service provides an opportunity to reflect on His life, death, and resurrection; to remember the love He showed for us all; and to renew our commitment to living lives filled with compassion and grace. All these factors contribute to making Resurrection Sunrise a truly special occasion that touches hearts and souls.

Please set your alarm, go to bed early Saturday night, and join the early morning celebration of Christ’s resurrection.

What better way to ponder new beginnings and hope for the future?

  5. Maundy Thursday Worship

Maundy Thursday worship is held to observe a day of commemoration of Jesus’ last supper with his disciples before his death. This worship will be somber and, as Communion is shared, we will remember the sacrifice our redeemer made on the cross. All who are baptized and believe in Christ’s death and resurrection, are invited to the Communion table.

  6. Ecumenical Good Friday Service

The “Seven Last Words of Christ,” a Good Friday Ecumenical Service held at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, will begin at 11:45 AM with an Organ prelude. At 12:00 PM, the Procession of Cross will take place followed by worship in seven 20-minute segments with organ interludes for arriving and departing.

This 3-hour service is led by community religious leaders and area musicians per Word. GracePoint’s Director of Ministries, Jeffrey Durham, will deliver the first of the seven messages.

Tower Chime tolls 33 times to conclude service. Free-will offering supports community needs. In-person and live streamed (stlukesdbq.org/goodfriday)

  7. Ash Wednesday Service

GracePoint will worship together the evening of Ash Wednesday at 7:30pm. We will be asked to begin the 40-day period of Lent by confessing sins we want Christ to remove; to “really examine areas of recurring sin” which are a hurdle to “being conformed to God’s will.”

Prepare for Ash Wednesday worship, which will include the imposition of ashes, by focusing on your own mortality and sinfulness. That way, we can enter into the Lenten season solemnly but with a greater anticipation of the joyful message of Easter — the celebration of Christ’s ultimate victory over sin and death.

  11. Precepts Class

The new Precepts study for the new year will take us back to the Old Testament in a series called Kings and Prophets.  The series is based on the books of Kings and Chronicles, focusing on the history and religious life of Israel after King David died. Our study begins with Solomon’s reign and concludes after Israel has been divided into the Northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah. What happened to cause Israel to be divided after the peace and prosperity of much of Solomon’s rule?

  13. Precepts

This fall we’re going to share a study from the ‘Lord” series.  These studies are more devotional than Precept Upon Precept and In & Out studies, which we usually use. There is a strong emphasis on application, and this study in particular focuses on issues we all are challenged by.
Too often, Christians struggle to approach life challenges in light of their faith. Our response to things like conflict, affliction, suffering, weakness, spiritual attack and feeling inadequate should be driven by who we are in Christ. Sadly, we don’t always understand how that works. Based on II Corinthians, we’ll learn from Paul how to genuinely have a heart for God that drives us to apply our faith to our life circumstances. We’re called to be different from the culture we live in, the Bible teaches us how to live differently. I hope you’ll join us to explore God’s heart for his children in “Lord Give Me a Heart For You.”
